Prickly Dogfish
Scientifically:
Oxynotus bruniensis.
What To Look For:
A small, stout dogfish with high, sail-like dorsal
fins and a large tail. The spines on the dorsal
fins are small and the body is a uniform grey-brown
colour. Not much is known about this shark, but it
is fairly common, living over the sea floor of the
continental shelf at depths to 500 m.
Size:
Up to 72 cm.
Distribution:
Southern Australia and New Zealand.
Food:
Not known.
Breeding:
Live-bearer, with up to 7 embryos recorded from 1
female.
Danger To Humans:
Not known to be dangerous.
