Portuguese Dogfish
Scientifically:
Centroscymnus coelolepis.
What To Look For:
A long, stocky dogfish with 2 small dorsal fins and very small fin
spines. this species is both common and ide-ranging, and is mostly
found living near the sea-bed on continental slopes at depths of
between 300 and 4000m.
Size:
Up to 1.2 m.
Distribution:
North-Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, but also recorded from
Newfoundland, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Slope at depths of
668-1016 m; elsewhere, down to 3675 m.
Food:
Bony fish, gastropods, squid, octopus, and cetacean meat.
Breeding:
Live-bearer, with about 15 pups per litter.
Danger To Humans:
Not known to be dangerous.
