Smalltooth Sand Tiger Shark
Scientifically:
Odontaspis ferox.
What To Look For:
A large, bulky shark with a long, conical nose, large
eyes and a conspicuous mouth. It has prominent teeth
and a large front dorsal fin. The body is grey,
sometimes with reddish blotches. This shark is found
near the sea floor over continental slopes to depths
of 420 m. This shark is also known as the Bumpytail
Raggedtooth Shark.
Size:
Up to 3,6 m.
Distribution:
Circumglobal in warm temperate and tropical waters.
Food:
Bony fish, squid and bottom-living crabs.
Breeding:
Unknown, presumed similar to the Sand
Tiger Shark.
Danger To Humans:
Rarely encountered and no records of aggression.
