Brown Banded Bamboo Shark
Scientifically:
Chiloscyllium punctatum.
What To Look For:
A small, slender shark with a short, rounded snout,
large dorsal fins and barbels on the chin. The body
is usually brown, but may be banded in some
individuals. Young sharks are patterned with saddles
and a few scattered dark spots. A common inshore
species, found on coral reefs and often in rock
pools as it can survive out of water for several
hours.
Size:
Up to 1.04 m.
Distribution:
Northern Indian Ocean, Western Pacific and Northern
Australia.
Food:
Bottom-living invertebrates.
Breeding:
Lays rounded eggs. Numbers not known.
Danger To Humans:
May bite if provoked.
