Great Lanternshark
Scientifically:
Etmopterus princeps.
What To Look For:
A dark, squat-bodied lanternshark with 2
spined dorsal fins and large eyes. There are
no conspicuous markings, but it does have
stout, hooked denticles widely spaced over the
body and snout. This species lives over the sea
floor at depths of between 500 and 2000 m.
Size:
Up to 75 cm.
Distribution:
Northern Atlantic.
Food:
Presumably bottom-living fish and squid.
Breeding:
Not known.
Danger To Humans:
Not known to be dangerous.
