On the 1850 census, the enumerator was kind enough to denote the county of
birth for those born in North Carolina, and state for all others. Next door to
Columbus and his family was Elijah Raby, single, age 24, born Burke Co. He was
living next to the family of Heatley Denning. In Heatley's house was Hannah
Raby, age 65, place of birth Unknown.
On the 1860 census, Columbus is listed as W. C. rather than C.W. He and his
family are next to the family of J.M. Galbreath.
