Dien's Arena Magic Rules For this variant players will share 5 separate decks. Each of the
decks will contain one of the five colors with 1/3 land cards. Special
cards (multi-color lands, artifacts, and gold cards) should be shuffled
and then mixed into the five decks. To start off the game each player
should be dealt two cards from each deck and chooses what seven they
would like to keep as their initial hand (discards are not revealed
until everyone has decided what to keep). Each time a player draws a card they may choose what deck to draw from. If
drawing multiple cards, they may draw from any combination of decks. In addition to the standard rules there are the following special rules:
Deck
Construction When constructing the five color decks you should try to include equal
power cards for each color. If you build one or two colors better then
any of the other then no one will draw from them. You should build them
where players want to draw from any of the piles. Sideboard This
variant does not use sideboards. Banned
& Restricted List When playing this variant it is usually
decided what type you will be playing. So if playing Type 1, Type 1.5,
Type 2, or Extended Dien’s Arena Magic then, follow that format’s
Banned and Restricted List. Mulligan Rules Standard
“Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant. Before each game begins, a player may, for
any reason, reshuffle and redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This
may be repeated as often as the player wishes, until he has no cards
left in his hand. After the participant, who plays first, mulligans as
often as he likes, the decision of whether to mulligan passes to the
other player. Once a player passes the opportunity to mulligan, that
player may not change his mind. History Joe Dien created this variant.
